LEXINGTON, Ky. — A new, "world-class" park is planned for downtown Lexington. The privately-funded Town Branch Park on Thursday unveiled final design plans for the sprawling 10-acre public space.

Adjacent to the new Central Bank Center, the park will feature a large stage and amphitheater, art installations, several play areas for kids and an expansive dog park.

Representatives from Town Branch Park and design firm Sasaki detailed the park's key features in a press conference. They also presented a fly-through video and scale models of the park.

Ground breaking is slated for spring 2023 and construction should wrap up in 2025, officials said.

"The community has embraced the positive impact Town Branch Park will have on our region and invested in it," said Allison Lankford, executive director of Town Branch Park. "We are thankful for the overwhelming support for this project, and today unveil a design shaped by the input of thousands of Lexingtonians who graciously shared their knowledge, ideas and vision for Town Branch Park.”

The park's 7,600-square-foot dog park will feature two pens: one for larger dogs and one for smaller pups. The water play area will include a traditional splash pad and several hands-on educational activities for kids throughout its 3,350 square feet.

Both the water area and children's play areas will be handicap accessible, officials said.

Town Branch Park amassed feedback from over 16,000 people through forums, surveys and meetings, which lead officials to tweak some plans for the stage and great lawn.
