VERSAILLES, Ky. — For almost 60 years, Woodford County has had one high school in their community, and this week the school district started the groundbreaking for a new one.

What You Need To Know

  • Woodford County will build a new high school

  • They built the current high school in 1963

  • Some students have had multiple generations of family pass through the school

  • The new high school is expected to be done by 2024

Since 1963, Woodford County High School has been the only high school in Versailles for students like junior Hannah Hash.

“I am rooting for the new high school. It is very, very exciting because we have been waiting for a new high school for about 10 years now,” Hash said.

A school Hash says is full of years of history.

“I’ve had three generations pass through this high school. My grandfather went here, my dad went here and so having both of them explaining where my classes would be my freshman year was definitely interesting,” Hash said.

Hash says many parts of the school are from the original build and has caused some concern within the school.

“I’ve had trouble with the bleachers this year. We’ve had leaks flooding all kinds of things,” Hash said.

But hopefully those concerns with the building will be gone within the next few years.

Woodford County Public Schools announced the groundbreaking of a new high school starting this week.

“The idea of getting a brand new shiny high school is obviously very exciting,” Hash said.

She says it was a project that took many in the community coming together to advocate for the students.

“To have a high school on the same level as the middle school we think it’s going to be so exciting is going to bring the community closer together because all of us have this thing that we can unite as a front,” Hash said.

A community coming together for the students, and an excitement Hash says she looks forward to for the younger generations.

The new high school will be near the middle school and is expected to be completed in 2024.
