LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County is reporting its first case of monkeypox.

The Lexington Fayette County Health Department confirmed its case on Wednesday. There are now at least 15 cases across Kentucky and over 12,000 cases across the country.

LCHD is hosting a monkeypox vaccine clinic Thursday, Aug. 18 but only for high-risk groups. This includes men who have had sex with men (MSM), including those that identify as gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-confirming or gender non-binary, with certain risk factors.

Those who want a vaccine must register in advance and it can be done online or if you don’t have internet, you can call 859-899-2222.

You do not need to be a Fayette County resident to receive the vaccine.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department is also offering the vaccine for at-risk groups. If you are interested in a vaccine, you need to call 859-363-2040.

Because vaccine supply is limited, appointments are being scheduled based on risk factors. As the vaccine supply increases, so will appointment availability.
