  • 20-year-old Noah Thompson is a construction worker and father from Louisa

  • Thompson said the support he’s received from his small town has been overwhelming

In the show's 20th season finale, Thompson bested his fellow finalists HunterGirl and Leah Marlene and took home the first-place prize.

"My heart is beating out of my chest, this is crazy," Thompson said after learning he had won live onstage.

A construction worker and father, Thompson performed three songs during the American Idol 3-hour finale: Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire," Rihanna's "Stay" and his original song, "One Day Tonight."

Thompson was one of two Kentuckians who ended up on the show this season. Fordsville teen Dakota Hayden made it to Hollywood Week but was ultimately eliminated.
