LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Railbird Music Festival won't be coming back to Keeneland this year, and it'll be held at an entirely different location next year, organizers announced on Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • Railbird Festival is not returning in 2022

  • The Lexington music festival will return in 2023, but it won't be held at Keeneland

  • Red Mile Gaming & Racing will host the next iteration

In a statement on social media, Railbird organizers said the festival will "take a pause" in 2022, but will return next year from June 3-4 at Red Mile Gaming & Racing's infield in downtown Lexington.

It comes after the sold-out 2021 festival left a bad taste in the mouths of many fans, which was evident in the immediate response on social media.

Fans said the long lines for everything from entry to water refilling stations, coupled with "miserably" hot conditions, amounted to their "worst festival experience ever." The festival prohibited fans from bringing in outside drinks last year, including water. Some attendees reported waiting for over an hour for a cup of water.

"We have listened and taken your feedback to heart and are working hard behind the scenes to create an exceptional experience for the next edition of the festival," organizers wrote on social media.

Railbird's inaugural 2019 festival featured headliners Brandi Carlile, Hozier, Tyler Childers and the Raconteurs. 2020's festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
