LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's officially Derby Week, and that means we'll soon know which horses will be in the running for a garland of roses and a garland of lilies.

What You Need To Know

  • The lineup for the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby will start taking shape on Monday

  • Draws for the Derby and Oaks races commence from 2-3 p.m. Monday

  • Post positions are randomly assigned during the draws

The draws for the $3 million Kentucky Derby and $1.25 million Kentucky Oaks are being held from 2-3 p.m. Monday at Churchill Downs. It'll all be livestreamed at KentuckyDerby.com.

Each race's first morning-line odds will also be announced after each draw sequence.

Up first will be the Oaks drawing, where up to 18 fillies may have their name entered, though the race is limited to 14 runners.

Draws for the 148th Kentucky Derby will happen soon after. That race is limited to 20 runners, but up to 24 can be entered.

Horses not within the top cut can be drawn into the field for both respective races if there's a scratch — where a horse is pulled from a race for any reason — by 9 a.m. on Friday, May 6.

Post positions are randomly assigned during the draw. Each horse's entry is pulled with a random number to determine which stall each horse will head to at the starting gate.
