COVINGTON, Ky. — Dee Felice Cafe’s Director of Operations Jon Burkhart said he’s spending his Easter Sunday making pancakes and omelettes for those venturing out on the holiday.

What You Need To Know

  • Dee Felice Cafe is located on Main Street in Covington, Ky.

  • Director of Operations Jon Burkhart said this Easter was busy with around 200 reservations

  • He said Easter in 2020 just wasn’t the same

  • Even Easter in 2021 had smaller crowds at the restaurant

“People are out. They’re ready to go do things now. They don’t want to be stuck in the house anymore so we’re starting to get back to a little bit of normal—or well, ‘normal’ as much as it can be,” Burkhart said.

He said the restaurant was looking at around 200 reservations for Easter Sunday—busier than usual. But luckily, Burkhart said they’ve got the proper staff to handle it all.

“I have an amazing staff behind me—they just took the last few days and planned it out completely,” Burkhart said.

But when asked about Easter two years ago, he said things looked very different during the COVID-19 pandemic’s first wave.

“It was very different. We didn’t know what to do. We didn’t know how to act. We’re sitting at home. We tried the takeout thing and we just weren’t equipped for that like a lot of the other small businesses,” he said.

He said Easter 2021 was also different—with smaller crowds than usual. But he’s grateful for a slightly more normal Easter this year.

“We’re just excited. We’re happy to be open and we can’t wait to keep moving forward,” Burkhart said.
