KENTUCKY — At least 11 tornadoes touched down in parts of western Kentucky and the Louisville metro area Wednesday night as a potent storm system rolled through, the National Weather Service said.

NWS crews conducted damage surveys Thursday that found evidence of at least three EF-0 tornadoes and six EF-1 tornadoes across Kentucky.

Southwestern Kentucky saw the following tornadoes:

  • EF-0 in Hickman County
  • EF-1 in Graves County
  • Two EF-0 cells in Marshall County
  • EF-1 in Trigg County

In Jefferson and surrounding counties, survey crews confirmed:

  • EF-1 in southern Jefferson County
  • Two separate EF-1's in Shelby County
  • An EF-0 in Shelby County near Tatum Road
  • EF-1 in Hart/LaRue Counties
  • Two EF-0 tornadoes in Spencer County

Wednesday night's storm system brought rain, thunder and strong straight-line winds through much of Kentucky, with winds knocking down trees and power lines from Bowling Green to Lexington.

Over 30 counties in Kentucky saw tornado warnings during Wednesday's storm.

As of 11 p.m. on Wednesday night, an estimated 32,942 LG&E customers were without power in Kentucky. Most widespread outages have since been repaired, according to officials. JCPS canceled classes in the Louisville area Thursday due to widespread outages, but classes were on for Friday.

NWS surveys are preliminary and based on damage found, their findings could be updated.
