  • The fire re-sparked early Tuesday morning

  • Two businesses lost everything as a result

  • The fire is still under investigation

Apartments were in the upstairs portion of the building. Two businesses—Artful Gifts and Maguana’s Unique Gifts and Decor—lost everything.

Down the street, the Lemon Drop Boutique’s owner, Deidra Hays, said those two were the heart of the Main Street area.

“They brought people in constantly and spread the love between the new shops and all that stuff. They were iconic down here,” she said.

Hays said she feared she’d lose her business too after hearing of Tuesday morning’s news. She said that in the middle of trying to get some of the more expensive stuff out of her shop; she noticed people coming by to help wherever needed—including those all dressed up for work.

“Just to see people lined up going, where do you want me? What do you want me to do? It was great. I mean, everyone was down here helping everyone,” she said.

Hays said she’s sure that the owners of the two businesses won’t give up and go down without a fight. She said she’s not sure if or when or how things will get rebuilt.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
