  • The application deadline for FEMA aid is Monday, March 14

  • There are multiple ways to apply, including online, on the FEMA app or by calling the helpline

  • There are 16 counties eligible for aid

  • Tornado survivors are encouraged to file insurance claims for their homes, vehicles and other personal property before applying for FEMA assistance

Gov. Andy Beshear detailed ways for individuals to apply for aid from FEMA on Twitter on Sunday.

As the governor stated, there are multiple ways to apply. If you have already applied for aid, you do not need to apply again.

If you are a homeowner or renter with uninsured or underinsured damage to your property from the tornadoes on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, you are eligible to apply for help. There are currently 16 counties eligible for aid, including Barren, Caldwell, Christian, Fulton, Graves, Hart, Hickman, Hopkins, Logan, Lyon, Marion, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Taylor and Warren counties.

FEMA assistance helps meet basic needs and supplement other efforts like disaster-related damage, rental assistance, lodging expenses or medical expenses caused by the storms, so it does not replace insurance and it cannot compensate for every loss.

Tornado survivors are encouraged to file insurance claims for their homes, vehicles and other personal property before applying for FEMA assistance.

To apply for assistance before Monday's deadline, you can go online or make a phone call. Visit DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

Those affected by the December tornadoes can apply for disaster loans using the Small Business Association’s website. You can also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955, or you can email DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov. For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, the number to call is 800-877-8339.
