FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Elements of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) have been ordered to deploy to Europe to support NATO allies. This comes as tensions build between Russia and Ukraine.

  • Several hundred units from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) have been deployed to the United States Army Europe area of operations to support Joint Task Force Dragon in order to help NATO allies in the region

  • Ft. Campbell units will join elements from the 18th Airborne Division that are already deployed

 

Major General JP McGee, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said several weeks ago, the Department of Defense ordered the 101st to be ready to deploy if needed. Tuesday, they received that order.

Several hundred units from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) are heading to the United States Army Europe area of operations to support Joint Task Force Dragon in order to help NATO allies in the region.

MG McGee said 101st Airborne units are ready to assist with anything needed upon arrival, whether that is humanitarian missions of combat missions.

“Soldiers and their families are watching the news and wondering what is going to happen next. The fact of the matter is, nobody knows what is going to happen next. What I do know is that we have a great team here together at Fort Campbell. The 101st Airborne Division and the units assigned here to Fort Campbell are made to excel in times like this, times of uncertainty,” said MG McGee.

Ft. Campbell will join elements from the 18th Airborne Division that are already deployed. MG McGee said other elements of the 101st Airborne Division are ready to deploy if needed.
