KENTUCKY — Flowers and chocolate usually come to mind when you think about Valentine's Day, but did you know a combination of the two adds up to Kentucky's favorite Valentine's Day candy?

That's right! According to a report from CandyStore.com, retail data revealed chocolate roses as the Commonwealth's most popular Valentine's candy.

The roses were followed closely by two classics: Conversation hearts and M&M's.

The National Retail Federation said Valentine's Day spending was down 20% last year when compared to 2020, as the pandemic was in full swing and COVID-19 vaccines weren't fully available in February 2021.

Spending is expected to pick back up this year. The NRF projects consumer spending will rise 10% to reach $23.9 billion for the holiday. 56% of consumers plan on buying candy  for Valentine's Day.

But Cupid's holiday is just about the sweetest candies – it's also about the sweetest movies. A study this year by Zippia sought to find the most popular romantic film in each U.S. state, and Kentucky's appears to be Woody Allen's 1977 satire, "Annie Hall."
