LOUISVILLE, Ky. — You might know Kacy Jackson’s name, but if you’ve been to NuLu in downtown Louisville, you’ve most likely seen his work.
Jackson, who painted a Derby-inspired mural last year, is the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Official Poster Artist for 2022. Jackson’s works are on display not only in Louisville but across the country. KDF said he was a perfect choice for the poster artist.
“Kacy’s uplifting style and his work to connect people through his art inspired us and aligns with our own mission of bringing the community together,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO in a statement. “We’re excited for fans to see his signature piece for this year’s Derby Festival.”
The Louisville native founded The Art of Kacy in 2017. According to his website, “The Art Of Kacy, your all-in-one art provider.” Jackson’s works feature all things Kentucky from Muhammad Ali to horses.
“My parents inspired me as a child watching them engage in art as a hobby and I want to do the same with my work,” said Kacy Jackson. “Being selected the Derby Festival Poster Artist gives me the opportunity to represent the community on a whole new level and at a special time for our city.”
Everyone will get their first look at the 2022 Festival poster and merchandise at “Festival Unveiled” on March 16 at the Mellwood Arts Center. General admission tickets are $45 per person and VIP tickets are also available for $65 per person. You can only buy tickets online beginning Jan. 28 at KDF.org.
The Derby Festival’s Official Poster Series is a unique collecting opportunity and has featured some of the best artists of our time. Peter Max’s “Bluegrass Pegasus” launched the poster series in 1981. Most of the previous posters are still available through the Festival’s website at KDF.org.
