COVINGTON, Ky. — It's what Chalk Eye's Bill Sears said has been in the works for about 6-8 months, taking the stage at the Village Theater in Covington.

What You Need To Know

  • Mayfield and many other communities across Kentucky are left picking up and rebuilding after tornadoes wreaked havoc on many homes

  • The Village Theater in Covington held a concert to fundraise money to help these people

  • Local musicians and bands took the stage to provide the entertainment

  • Proceeds will go to Mayfield

But just about a month before the event was set to take place, news gets out of the devastation in Mayfield and other western Kentucky areas left rebuilding what was destroyed by a tornado.

“We wanted to help out fellow Kentuckians who’ve lost everything. This is the best way we could come up with how to do it," Sears said.

This event turned into a way to fundraise money to go to those impacted by December's weather. Sears said many musicians local to northern Kentucky area wanted to pitch in.

“We actually didn’t have enough time to put all the people on the bill that wanted to play," Sears said.

With roughly 10 acts ending up scheduled to perform, there was a minimum $5 donation at the door for people to come listen to music, get a drink, and even partake in raffles. It was a creative way to give back to the cause.

“Imagine if you lost everything you owned in an instant- musicians would feel that even more with the instruments and things like that so that’s exactly how we’re going to reach out," Sears said.

Marsha Hunt, the event coordinator, said she wanted to help out once this night turned into a way to help those in need.

“It’s our neighbor and I think we should always want to help our neighbors out," Hunt said.
