Beans and cornbread, a warm meal Ohmer says hits the spot on a cold winter month.

It's one of the many meals the church under the bridge has provided for those in need.

“I think it’s great, what they do for these people there's really good. I don't think we do enough for people,” Ohmer said.

Stacie Sorensen, a volunteer, says it’s hard to help everyone during these colder months, and says for some it’s more than just battling winter storms.

“A lot of them don’t want to go inside, you know they have trauma so people don't realize that they, you know they have issues so a lot of them can’t go inside,” Sorensen said.

Church Under The Bridge provides warm clothing items like pants, sweaters, gloves and hand warmers along with food items like beans, cornbread, sandwiches and pizza.

“They need a good place to go. I was walking up here from the transit center and I saw several of them sitting in the transit center trying to keep warm,” Sorensen said.

Providing warm shelter and meals that others like Ohmer can enjoy, is the mission behind this group, and during these tough times the need only gets greater.

Church Under The Bridge is collecting donations along with other shelters in the area. They are looking for winter items, like blankets, hats, gloves and sleeping bags. Anyone interested in giving donations can reach out at 859-533-6437.
