LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two and a half years after being the second overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft, former Louisville Cardinal Asia Durr has been cleared to once again play basketball.
Durr tested positive for COVID-19 in early 2020 and is classified as a long hauler. She has missed two full seasons with the New York Liberty but has finally been given the green light to play.
Durr took to Instagram to announce that she has been cleared to play again after undergoing extensive testing, including cardiac tests.
Earlier this year in an interview with HBO's Real Sports, Durr reported she lost 32 pounds during her COVID fight and that she struggled to do anything basketball-related.
Durr is still under contract with the Liberty for this season, but just how much she will be able to contribute is uncertain since she hasn't played any ball in more than 18 months. In 2019, her first and last season so far with the Liberty, Durr averaged 9.97 PPG. 1.6 RPG and 1.7 APG. Durr was named ACC Player of the Year two years in a row, making her the first player in Louisville program history to be named conference player of the year multiple times. Durr is joined by fellow Louisville Cardinals Jazmine Jones and Kylee Shook on the Liberty squad.
