LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There's a new millionaire in Kentucky and he has a scratch-off card to thank for it.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous bought a "Break Fort Knox" scratch-off ticket at Cox's Smokers Outlet on Manslick Road in Louisville. A few scratches later he found out he was taking the top prize of $3 million.
In a statement from the Kentucky Lottery, the man said, “I scratched the ticket off from left to right when I got to the bottom row. It was the third number to the last I matched. That’s when I yelled, ‘Yahtzee.” He added he took a picture of the ticket and looked at it every day.
The man, who is from Jefferson County, chose to take the game's lump sum cash payment of $2,244.000. After taxes, he received a check for $1,593,240. The man said he was planning on retiring next year. This is quite a retirement package for him.
Cox's Smoker Outlet will receive $22,440 for selling the winning ticket, which is 1% of the lump sum payment.
