LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A growing number of Kentucky school districts are switching to test-to-stay policies. Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) could be the next to implement that new quarantine policy.
What You Need To Know
- Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio will recommend a test to stay quarantine policy change
- Board members are expected to vote on this Tuesday night
- Pollio will also recommend giving vaccinated employees a one-time $200 incentive
- The Kentucky Department of Education said it will reimburse $100 per employee to districts that give such incentives
At Tuesday's meeting, JCPS superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio said he will recommend the board approve a new test-to-stay policy in the district. Under that plan, students who were in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 would not have to quarantine if they are not displaying symptoms and they continue to test negative for COVID-19.
The goal of this type of policy is to decrease the number of quarantines and keep students in school when possible. JCPS board members are expected to vote on this Tuesday night.
Another item to pay attention to will be vaccine incentives for teachers. Pollio said teachers could be getting $200 if they are vaccinated. Several weeks ago, the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) said it would reimburse school districts for giving vaccinated employees a one-time $100 incentive. KDE also asked districts to match another $100 per person.
That is exactly what Marty Pollio said he will recommend Tuesday night. He spoke about both topics during his weekly recap video Friday.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Central High School.
