LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The 20th annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic runs this weekend at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Over 140 colleges from 24 different states will be represented.

With the Louisville Sports Commission hosting, the Live in Lou Classic is shaping up to be the nation’s largest college meet this season, attracting 2,600 athletes from many top college cross country programs to the Commonwealth.

The packed day will feature three women’s and three men’s college races; post-time for the first race on Saturday is 9:30 a.m.

Eastern High School will also host elementary school races on Friday (Oct. 1) starting at 5:15 p.m. and middle and high school races on Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. The youth and prep races are expected to draw 2,800 runners from seven states, organizers said.

Located at 3000 Freys Hill Road in Louisville, Tom Sawyer State Park will be packed with talent this weekend; including 35 men's teams and 37 women's teams currently ranked by the NCAA Division I Regional and National Coaches’ Poll, the NCAA Division II National Coaches’ Poll, the NCAA Division III National Coaches’ Poll, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coaches’ Poll.

The men's 8,000-meter Gold race, slated for 9:30 a.m., will feature three powerhouse cross country programs: University of Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee University and Grand Valley State University (MI).

The women’s 5,000-meter Gold race, scheduled for 10:15 a.m., showcases one of the top programs in the country, the Big 10’s University of Michigan. Teams expected to contend for a top five finish are University of Wisconsin, Grand Valley State University (MI), West Virginia University, Loyola-Chicago and Middle Tennessee State.

Practice time for college teams is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. The elementary school races will be contested at Sawyer on Friday starting at 5:15 p.m. The high school races will be contested on Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. with teams from from Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
