In an email to Spectrum News 1, superintendent Sarah Wasson confirmed the death of Rhonda Estes, a "loved" guidance counselor at Lee County Elementary.
Estes was in her 35th year with the district, Wasson said.
"Rhonda was a calming force with a positive outlook regardless of the circumstance. She encouraged and inspired all those she came in contact with," she added.
Wasson described Estes as someone who "did little things behind the scenes to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew her."
She said the district is working with counselors and faith-based leaders to support students and staff.
