LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 4 p.m. Monday for parts of Pike and Floyd counties in eastern Kentucky. Tropical Storm Ida is making its way up to Kentucky but moisture ahead of the storm has caused several areas of Pike County to already experience flooding, and several roads have become impassable, leaving motorists stranded.

Thunderstorms producing between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen in the area have generated what the National Weather Service is calling “life-threatening” flash flooding in Pike and Floyd counties. Pike County Emergency Management is reporting floodwaters have blocked multiple roads in Pike County and people are being urged not to travel.
“Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads,” the department posted on its Facebook page. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”
Pike County Emergency Services is also asking people to report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass the information to the National Weather Service.
