HENDERSON, Ky. — No lives — equine or human — were lost when fire raced through a barn at Ellis Park Sunday morning.

Track security noticed the fire in the receiving barn around 4 a.m. The fast-reacting grooms at the track, rescued seven horses inside the barn, only one horse received minor injuries. 

Ellis Park general manager Jeff Inman said in a news conference that firefighters believe the cause of the fire was electrical.  The fire forced the track to cancel all races Sunday. 

Pictures of the fire show the flames swallowing the barn completely.  Monday, aerial photos and drone video released from the track show the damage caused by the blaze.  Seven total fire departments from around the Henderson area responded to the call to help put out the blaze.In the news conference, Inman said horse training will resume at the track on Tuesday, Aug. 24 and racing will take place Friday, Aug.  27.

The barn is 25 years old.
