LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The best in the world went head to head for the title of "Women's Cup” champs on Saturday, and Racing Louisville FC was crowned victorious as a record crowd cheered them on.

At the end of nine minutes of stoppage time, the score was tied 2-2, forcing the team into penalties. After ten PK’s the score remained tied between Racing and Bayern – resulting in the goalkeepers having a show-down.

Katie Lund, who entered the game for Michelle Betos in the 71st, minute was able to score on her attempt and then stop a kick from the opposing goalie, giving Racing the win 7-6 and The Womens Cup trophy.

An unforgettable experience for fans like Massey Bowie, who have been with the ladies in lavender since the very beginning.

“We've got Olympic gold medalists, we've got world cup finalists, we've got all these incredible teams here from PSG, Bayern, Chicago and even with Racing we've got a ton of incredible talent and it's just super cool to be here and to see that come to Louisville in its first season of having a professional women's team,” Bowie said.

Saturday night's game came down to a penalty kick shoot-out and for Katie Lund shortly after her first professional minutes for Racing Louisville FC. 

A dream come true not only for the players on the pitch, but also for the ones hoping to follow in the team's footsteps and go pro.

“I mean honestly, kids dream about this and to have this moment as my pro debut, I couldn't be more grateful,” Lund said.

“If I grow up to be good I want to play for that team and then probably go play for the international team someday,” Racing fan Murphy Smith said.

A Racing-record crowd of 7,813 fans filled Lynn Family Stadium, cheering them onto victory.

“Look at the people who were in the stadium tonight, look at the positives around the city tonight, the energy and look at the commitment of these players wearing this jersey, representing this club and this city, I mean as a coach I'm spoiled,” Christy Holly, head coach for Racing Louisville FC said.

One of them being Murphy Smith, a rising soccer star who currently plays for the Louisville City FC Academy. He got to see first-hand what he hopes his future will look like.

“It's pretty awesome to see people from different countries play and sometimes I get to see the women play at the field so it's really cool to come see the pros play,” Smith said.

Goalkeepers Katie Lund and Michelle Betos were named co-MVPs of The Women's Cup. Organizers hope to bring the event back to Louisville soon.
