LEXINGTON, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear stopped by the Frankfort County Farmers market Saturday to proclaim this week "Farmers Market Week in Kentucky."

The week of August 1-7 will now honor and recognize local farms emphasizing fresh, health foods. 115 of Kentucky's 120 counties have active farmers markets in their communities.
The event is designed to recognize local farmers and the need for local food systems. Beshear said farmers markets help Kentuckians access healthy, fresh foods.
Beshear said he's thankful to Kentucky farmers for growing healthy foods to put on tables throughout the pandemic, and emphasized that all Kentucky counties should have an active farmers market.
“Of our 120 counties, 115 have farmers markets, the other 5 just need to get with it and put one up. They help our people access healthier, fresher foods and I think we are going to hit 120 any day now,” Beshear said.
Farmers Market Week in Kentucky will take place the first week of August from now on.
