PADUCAH, Ky. — An explosion at a Dippin' Dots contract manufacturing facility in Paducah on Wednesday injured 10 employees. On Thursday afternoon, a Dippin' Dots spokesperson said nine of the employees had been treated and released from the hospital while one continues to recover.

A statement from the company called the explosion "a terrible accident." Dippin' Dots said it is working with local officials and has contacted state and federal authorities in preparation for a "complete investigation."

While officials aren't sure what exactly caused the explosion, Paducah police said a truck was unloading liquid nitrogen at the facility when the explosion happened.

The statement from Dippin' Dots said the explosion occurred at a contract manufacturing facility and did not involve the company's headquarters and ice cream production facility.

Dippin' Dots CEO Scott Fischer said in a statement, "My heart is with our employees, especially those injured in [Wednesday's] terrible incident. I care deeply for our employees — They are family to me."

In 2019, an explosion in a production area of a separate Paducah manufacturing facility injured four people.
