Louisville, Ky. — The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) has given Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio his annual report card and he gets an A.
The annual superintendent's review was released by the JCBE Tuesday and said Pollio demonstrated “an exemplary adeptness at strategic leadership” throughout the COVID-19 pandemic."
The review went on to say, “During a time of unprecedented crisis caused by the pandemic,” the evaluation stated, “Dr. Pollio navigated very rough waters with a steady hand and resolve to keep focus on a shared vision of facilitating student learning and thus led us through a crisis strategically.”
“Dr. Pollio’s leadership resulted in the district being nimble, adaptable and highly supportive of students.”
The board uses the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) Superintendent Evaluation procedure, which sets up standards and goals that the school board and superintendent agree to and then bases the review on evidence and performance.
In their review, board members saluted Pollio for not only dealing with the pandemic but addressing the future educational needs of students as well.
The review read, “Even as he took immediate action to address the demands of the moment, he identified opportunities to build systems for the longer term, moving toward districtwide one-to-one technology and rethinking how technology can be used to accelerate learning.”
Pollio was also commended by the board for taking steps to improve minority hiring, reduce the number of teacher vacancies and increase teacher retention. The board went on to praise Pollio and his emphasis on
“staff training to better serve our culturally diverse students, address bias and provide equitable access to programs and opportunities.”
The board also pointed out that under Pollio's leadership, JCPS continues to progress in its development of a culturally responsive curriculum, the expansion of historically underrepresented students identified as gifted and talented, including Black and Brown students, students with disabilities and English Learners. corrective action plan to ensure that improvements become systemic and last for years to come.”, including Black and Brown students, students with disabilities and English Learners.
In the areas of strategic and managerial leadership, Dr. Pollio received an exemplary rating. He was rated as accomplished in the standards of instructional, cultural, human resource, collaborative and influential leadership.
