On July 18, starting pay for Next Day Air employees on the night shift increases to $18.50/hour, up from a starting wage of $14.50/hour. Second Day Air employees who work during the day will be paid $16.50/hour, also up from $14.50/hour.

In a press release, representatives said the new starting pay rate applies to all part-time package handlers and administrative staff at Worldport, not just new hires. Current bonuses for new-hire employees will end, but the company's $50 weekly bonus for working on Sunday is set to continue.

Newly-hired employees from Kentucky coming off unemployment also are eligible for the state’s $1,500 back-to-work incentive.

"I applaud UPS for doing so much to help this country win the war against COVID-19 by transporting PPE, testing materials and lifesaving vaccines," Gov. Andy Beshear said. "UPS, one of our largest employers, is now stepping up to help more Kentuckians return to the workforce by raising starting wages and supporting our back-to-work incentive. With partners like UPS our economy will continue to boom as we emerge from this pandemic."

UPS has long been heralded for its employment package, which often includes significant reimbursement for college expenses for employees working through school. As Kentucky continues to recover from the pandemic, UPS said market conditions determined the need for a pay adjustment.

The adjusted pay rates are guaranteed through Jan. 15, 2022, and may be extended beyond that, based on conditions.

In addition to the increased wages, UPS also streamlined its hiring process for the digital age. The application process is fully online with no in-person interview required. You can be on the job in as little as five days, including the required TSA background check.
