LOUISVILLE, Ky- Conventions in Kentucky are back in a big way.
Louisville largest events and trade shows are back on the calendar after being canceled or reduced in size during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Kentucky State Fair is a good example of an event that happened but was dramatically smaller in scope and attendance.
The President and CEO of Kentucky Venues David Beck has good news for fans of the fair.
“If we saw a change in COVID-19, if we needed to ramp it down then we can do that as needed by area. Now unless that changes we’re going for a full fair for 2021," Beck told Spectrum News 1.
In 2020 the Kentucky State Fair was limited to livestock show participants and family members only.
A bowling proprietors convention is coming to the Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC) in downtown Louisville in a just a few days. This event was originally booked for 2020 but was postponed for more than a year.
“If you look at this property we’ve got a lot of space on several levels," Beck says of the KICC. For months Beck was limited in what Kentucky venues could do with space at either the KICC or Expo Center. If you recall the Expo Center was a voting hub during the presidential election last year.
13 events are booked for July with most happening at the Expo Center. Beck says the rebound is happening now.
“The impact is huge. Between our two properties probably close to 68% of our hotels filled in this region are filled by events from these two properties. It is important it provides a lot of jobs, Beck said.
