LOUISVILLE, Ky. — This Memorial Day weekend proved to be one of the busiest weekends at the Kentucky Expo Center in more than a year. Crowds gathered for events that include a tattoo convention, the USA volleyball open national championships and, of course, the Kentucky Flea Market, which kicked things off in its first outing since the pandemic began.

As in-person events slowly return, that means the Kentucky Flea Market is back at the Expo Center for the first time in 14 months.

“[It was great] to see a whole bunch of different stuff that you don't really see around anywhere else. I'm glad everyone is able to get around and get social again,” shopper Osyrus Peace said.

With over 600 booths of antiques, clothing and jewelry, vendors could not contain their excitement over returning for the 40th annual Memorial Day Spectacular.

For Dannie Chandler Antiques, it was a chance to showcase his business for the first time since the pandemic started.

“We normally only do the Labor Day and New Years show but we thought since there hadn't been a show here in so long that it might be a good opportunity. People are anxious to get back out and come to the flea market so we thought it'd be a good turnout and a good time to do it,” Chandler said.

From elk bones to Star Wars LEGOs, the flea market has just about anything and everything you may be looking for.

“It brings so many different people together, I think it's a good event to see how different personalities come out and the things that they are selling and what not. We just bought a house last year so kind of looking for household items always,” shopper Haley Nestor said.

Admission and parking for the Kentucky Flea Market are free, and it runs through Memorial Day until 5 p.m.
