LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thrill seekers and water lovers rejoice: Hurricane Bay, Kentucky Kingdom’s dynamic waterpark attraction, opened Saturday, May 29, symbolizing the kickoff of the park’s summer season. The waterpark, a longtime summer tradition for regional families, features over two dozen attractions for guests of all ages, including two kids play areas, two wave pools, three slide towers, and two river tube attractions.

Hurricane Bay’s opening also marks the start of Kentucky Kingdom’s summer season, with extended park hours for more time to enjoy over 70 thrilling rides – including six world-class coasters and one of the world’s tallest body slides.

“What better way to commence the summer season than with the opening of Louisville’s beloved Hurricane Bay waterpark,” said Craig Ross, Kentucky Kingdom General Manager. “Enhancing our guests’ experience remains our top priority, and we are happy to introduce longer days spent enjoying our world-class Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay rides & attractions.”

Making its Kentucky Kingdom season debut on Saturday, June 5, the Raging Rapids River ride will be bringing back the thrills for the summer. On July 1, guests can look forward to the return of the 150-foot Giant Wheel delivering the best panoramic views of Louisville once again.

Beginning Saturday, May 29, Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay will operate daily through August 15. Guests can enjoy Kentucky Kingdom from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Hurricane Bay from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends. During the week, Kentucky Kingdom will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., while Hurricane Bay’s hours will remain consistent. Following recent guidance from Gov. Andy Beshear, Kentucky Kingdom’s updated 2021 Play Safe protocols include no face coverings required for vaccinated guests, while unvaccinated guests are asked to wear a face covering while indoors and/or unable to socially distance. No face coverings are to be worn at Hurricane Bay waterpark. More than 100 handwashing and sanitizing stations have been positioned throughout the park for guest hygiene, and masks are available upon request.
