LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Kingdom reopens this weekend, promising an outdoor getaway as the commonwealth continues to combat the coronavirus.

What You Need To Know

  • Kentucky Kingdom has reopened for the summer

  • The park is open on weekends only until Memorial Day

  • A spokesperson said they'll monitor attendance, but wouldn't list a specific cap

  • "Plenty of room" for customers to spread out throughout Louisville property

Gov. Andy Beshear (D) announced this week his plans to ease capacity restrictions on businesses and events by Memorial Day weekend. Kingdom VP of Guest Experience Jessi O'Daniel said there will be an attendance cap of some sort when gates opened Saturday, but wouldn't give any specific numbers.

"It’s not really a concern of ours, just due to the sheer amount of acreage," O'Daniel said. "Like I said, plenty of room for us to space out and house everybody safely within our gates."

She joked that the park is covered in stickers reminding customers to distance from one another. With a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces on the property bordering the Kentucky Expo Center, visitors can expect COVID guidelines now common among attractions, with some relaxed procedures as well.

"Our COVID procedure is simple," O'Daniel said. "We want our guests to wear masks when they’re not able to social distance. But, as long as they’re social distanced, masks are not required outdoors, only in indoor areas. We encourage our guests to sanitize their hands frequently in our more than 100 hand sanitizer stations throughout the park."

This season, visitors can enjoy more than 10 new major food items and additional craft beer and spirit selections throughout the park. Additions include Fruity Pebble Funnel Cakes, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwiches, Southern Style Chicken Sandwiches, Nathans Hot Dogs, and a classic theme park favorite – Dole Floats.

Kentucky Kingdom will be open on weekends-only until Memorial Day, when it will move to every-day operation. The company's water park, Hurricane Bay, is scheduled to open for its season that same weekend. Tickets and more information can be found here.
