KENTUCKY — The week kicks off with Memorial Day events. It ends with summer season favorites returning to the Bluegrass. It’s shaping up to be a busy week across the Commonwealth. Here is what’s happening This Week in Kentucky.

Monday

We begin the week honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. There will be a ceremony at Fort Knox Main Post at 11:30 a.m. The installation will have its annual cemetery visitation the same day. There will also be a ceremonial wreath laying, a tradition to honor all the U.S. service members who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Kentucky National Guard will also host its annual Memorial Day observance. It will take place at 10 a.m. ET at the Kentucky National Guard Memorial located at the entrance to Boone National Guard Center (100 Minuteman Parkway) in Frankfort. 

Thousands of cyclists, paddlers and walkers will be on the move again at the Mayor’s Hike, Bike and Paddle event Monday. The 17th consecutive event takes place at Louisville’s Waterfront Park.

Ford Motor Company announced another shut down for the Louisville Assembly Plant due to the global semiconductor shortage. The plant shuts down this week through the week of June 28.

Thursday

Thursday marks five years since the passing of boxing legend and Louisville native, Muhammad Ali. The community is invited to attend a rose and remembrance ceremony at Cave Hill Cemetery from noon- 3 p.m. That kicks off Ali Festival events at the Muhammad Ali Center in downtown Louisivlle.

Friday

Former UofL Men’s Basketball assistant coach, Dino Gaudio is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on a charge of interstate communication with intent to extort. That felony charge carries a maximum of two years in prison. Following his arraignment, court records show Gaudio will have a change of plea hearing. A document filed with the change of plea schedule has been sealed. That federal indictment claims Gaudio threatened to expose alleged NCAA recruitment violations if the university did not pay him post-firing. Friday Flicks returns to Lexington for the summer season. Families can catch a free movie every Friday night at Jacobson Park. This week’s flick is Frozen 2.

Street Beats returns to Paducah this week. The free summer event downtown features live music every Friday and Saturday this summer.
