LEXINGTON, Ky. — With a scoop of ice cream, community members in Wilmore will be giving back to their community.
The Local Confectionary will be donating 100% of its sales back into their community.
One scoop at a time, Caylie Mindling is giving back to her community.
“Helping shops, when they encounter issues helping people startup businesses, things like that. We have a whole list of like 30 plus ideas right now, projects that we want to get started on,” Mindling said.
In the small town of Wilmore, Mindling along with Erika Miller and others are starting up a local non-profit ice cream shop.
100% of their sales will go directly back into the community.
“Just the potential that we see it's so beautiful, there's so much here that it has to offer. And we just want everyone to know about it so just being able to invest back into the community and see that our money is doing something good, it's just amazing,” Miller said.
The Local Confectionary will open in May, sharing a location with the Olive Branch.
Mindling says having this partnership will allow people to enjoy some ice cream while shopping locally.
“In a space for makers to sell their goods changes lives. I'm a maker here and so I can tell you that it's changed my life, I know what sounds dramatic but like, it's true. And so seeing that change happen in 34 plus people kind of just gives you a confidence of like, we can do this you know like, we're a small town, and a small shop, but we're changing people's lives.”
The Local Confectionary owners have started a fundraiser before their opening date.
Allowing the non-profit to give 100% of its sales back to the community from the very first scoop.
“We didn't want to have to wait three years of trying to build our profits before we could start getting back. We wanted to do it right away,” Mindling said.
The Local Confectionary has raised around $7,000 of its $27,000 goal.
