LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County families are owed more than $89 million in delinquent child support payments. On Sunday, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell printed the names of more than 3,000 deemed delinquent parents in the Courier Journal.
Parents needed to owe at least $3,000 to make O’Connell’s list.
“Publishing the list we are here to discuss is just one of the tactics we use to collect on behalf of kids,” O’Connell said Monday.
The list includes names, money owed, and last known addresses. O’Connell says often times tip callers may not know exactly where a person lives but knows where they work. The County Attorney’s Office and the child support division will take it from there.
“Louisville we need your help to find these individuals who are not meeting their obligations to their children,” O’Connell said. Many of the dollar amounts owed are well into five figures. The most egregious case has a male parent owing more than $500,000.
“Most of our cases are going to be a Jefferson County resident either the custodial parent or the non-custodial parent where we are also enforcing an order, maybe from another state,” child support division director Diane Fleming said Monday.
