LEXINGTON, Ky. — With a second round of winter weather coming through the commonwealth, John Bobel with the Lexington Emergency Management said they already have a plan in place for this upcoming storm.

“Our crews are prepared to get out there and do the job. We want people in town to be prepared to stay home, off the roads, be prepared for power outages. Make sure you've got flashlights, batteries and charge your cell phone, so that you have a way to communicate with the utility companies,” Bobel said.

Bobel said Kentuckians should stay off of the roads as much as they can over the next few days and be prepared for power outages around the Lexington area.

“This storm presents the probability of ice. And the last forecast from the National Weather Service was at least four if not six, and maybe even eight inches of snow,” Bobel said.

Jordan Saas with the Lexington Fire Department, said they received over one hundred calls for emergencies in the Fayette County area, and plan to have the stations fully staffed for the upcoming days.

“We want to inform people that winter weather is coming, we already know it's being predicted. It's being forecasted that people should be prepared, emergency preparedness is a huge avenue, a huge step in the right direction. To prevent or at least mitigate some of the negative effects of the winter weather,” Saas said.

Bobel and Saas want to remind anyone who may be using an approved kerosene heater to heat their houses should remember to open up windows to allow for air flow through the house, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

“If you go to bed. Turn that heater off, get some blankets, hunker down for the night, turn it back on when you wake up, but never, never, never leave it on overnight,” Bobel said.

The Lexington Fire Department will have over 100 employees working through the different stations in the Lexington Area with these next upcoming days, with many firefighters on standby.
