LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Spectrum News 1 is learning more about the vaccine distribution to Louisville's West End. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steven Hester says Norton Healthcare will soon begin administering the vaccine in West Louisville churches.

What You Need To Know

  • Norton Health care will administer COVID-19 vaccines in West Louisville Churches

  • Louisville has given vaccines to 11% of its Black population, but it makes up 22% of Louisville's population

  • No information yet when the church vaccinations will take place or how

This comes as community members, including elected leaders, have complained about the city's vaccine distribution; on Tuesday, the Louisville Metro Health Department said 11% of vaccinations have been administered to Black citizens although the demographic makes up 22% of Louisville's population.

In addition to this, State Rep. Attica Scott (D-Jefferson Co.) sent a letter to Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander recently. In her complaint, she addresses the fact that those aged 70 years and older qualify for immunization while people in her district don't have an average life expectancy of 70 years. Data from Louisville Metro Health shows more people are being vaccinated on the other side of town, in East Louisville.

Norton does have a vaccine clinic on 18th and Broadway; details are slim now as to when the church events will happen and where they will be.

Dr. Hester explains the event as, "you know, have some of their individuals scheduled. Have some of those events on-site. And again, I think trying to do everything we can to get into the community."
