KENTUCKY — An Owensboro man has been arrested in Pennsylvania on charges related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riots in Washington, D.C., the FBI announced on Thursday.

Peter Schwartz was taken into custody in Uniontown, Pa. on Thursday and faces four charges in his alleged role in the riots. Schwartz was charged with forcibly assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers; knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building; obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder; and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

According to an affidavit, FBI agents positively identified Schwartz in a newscast posted to YouTube on Jan. 7. The video showed rioters and police clashing outside the Capitol building, and Schwartz can be seen spraying mace at a police officer.

The affidavit also said a tip was received on Jan. 11 from an acquaintance of Schwartz. The tip asserts that Schwartz is a felon who was released from prison due to COVID-19, and he now works as a traveling welder.

Schwartz was supposed to be at a rehab facility in Owensboro on Jan. 6, according to the tipster.

Another tipster identified Mr. Schwartz from his picture on an FBI wanted bulletin. Owensboro police also positively identified Mr. Schwartz, the FBI said.

So far, at least six Kentuckians have been charged in connection to the Capitol riots on Jan. 6. The full FBI database of arrests and charges can be found here.
