LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County residents in Tier 1B are now being vaccinated. Tier 1B includes non-medical first responders, including police officers, anyone 70 years old and older, and teachers.
Sarah Beth Hartlage is Louisville's director of public health and says thousands more will be vaccinated at the Kentucky Expo Center this week than three weeks ago when the mass-vaccination site first opened.
“We are taking more patients per hour on any other day of the operation," Dr. Hartalge said Monday.
Around 2,000 vaccines were administered during the first week. Dr. Hartlage plans to triple that number this week including vaccinating 1,200 Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) teachers on Friday.
Vaccinating Tier 1B individuals is expected to last three weeks. The next group Tier 1C includes all essential workers, any person above 60 years old and people above 16 with a complicating health condition.
