LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday and Mayor Greg Fischer received the shot hours later.

Three-thousand doses arrived Wednesday morning, and the city arranged to have a cross-section of frontline workers vaccinated the same afternoon.
"We are here at Metro Public Health to celebrate, to celebrate, both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine are here in our city," Fischer said.
Dr. Sarah Moyer, Louisville’s chief health strategist, was the first frontline worker to receive the vaccination by the department.
Dr. John Buchino received a Moderna vaccine a few moments later, then Fischer rolled up his sleeve.
"We really want to emphasize during this holiday season, the Christmas and New Years, please, everybody, have the save level of diligence that you had during Thanksgiving. No big gatherings. When you’re inside with people that aren’t in your bubble, keep your mask on inside as well," Fischer said.
The department expects to receive another 3,000 doses in a few weeks.
