Walgreens pharmacy team members will administer COVID-19 vaccinations at roughly 800 of Kentucky's long-term care facilities this week, according to a press release from the governor's office.

Facilities that received the vaccine from Walgreens Monday include Signature Healthcare of Summerfield and Signature Healthcare at Jefferson Manor Rehab & Wellness Center in Louisville and Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

“This is a great day for long-term care residents, and it is yet another day that we march towards victory in our battle against COVID-19,” Gov. Andy Beshear said during a vaccine update Monday afternoon.

The governor said that 25,000 of Kentucky's initial Pfizer vaccine alottment will go to Walgreens or CVS, both of which are helping administer the vaccine in the state's long-term care facilities. Booster doses are expected in roughly three weeks, he added.

In a press release, CVS said it officially launched its COVID-19 vaccination program for long-term care facilities. Teams will administer the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine in facilities across 12 states this week, including Kentucky.

CVS said it expects to vaccinate up to four million residents and staff at over 40,000 long-term care facilities through its program.

Walgreens also said its teams would administer vaccinations in 11 other states this week.

"The company will continue to expand vaccinations to nearly 3 million residents and staff at 35,000 long-term care facilities that have selected Walgreens as their vaccine provider as states finalize their distribution plans and receive vaccine allocations," said a press release from the company.
