LEXINGTON, Ky. — As 2020 comes to an end, students and parents in Fayette County can look forward to food service returning on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The school district's Child Nutrition staff will resume meal pickup on Jan. 5, according to a release sent by administrators. Classes are set to resume via non-traditional instruction (NTI) starting Jan. 7-8.
Staff will begin preparation for district-wide food distribution on Jan. 4, with meal pickup kicking off Jan. 5 and 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pickup locations can be found here.
Families may receive food bags at any site regardless of student enrollment, but administrators ask families to limit pickups to one per household so there is enough food for everyone in need.
If NTI continues in January, food service will return to the previous Monday/Wednesday schedule, with adjustments for holidays and inclement weather.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) allowed school districts to use the national waiver for expanded meal service for children and families:
- Free breakfasts and lunches are available for anyone age 18 and younger
- Children do not have to be enrolled in Fayette County Public Schools
- Children do not have to be present for meals pickup
