LEXINGTON, Ky. — Looking for a quick, free COVID-19 test in the Lexington area? The drive-thru testing location located on College Way on the University of Kentucky's campus is moving on Monday — don't end up at the wrong spot.
What You Need To Know
- One COVID-19 testing site on UK's campus is moving to accommodate more patients
- College Way testing site moves to Kroger Field Dec. 7
- Kroger Field accommodates six lanes instead of two
- Testing is free and open to the public
Beginning Monday, Dec. 7, the free, public drive-thru COVID-19 testing site formerly on the UK campus will be located at the Kroger Field parking lot. The new location allows for more testing due to the larger space, according to UK Police Chief Joe Monroe.
“To meet the demand for more testing of Lexington area residents, we are expanding our capacity by moving to the Kroger Field location,” Monroe said. “We also are expanding the hours of operation through Dec. 30.”
The new testing site will be located in Kroger Field's Blue Lot — accessible through Alumni Drive. Capacity is increasing to six lanes of cars compared to the College Way site's two lanes.
“As Kentucky is seeing a surge in positive cases of COVID-19, we want to do our part to test as many people as possible through the end of the year,” Monroe said. “Our goal is to test more than 40,000 people this month between both sites, and we can accomplish that with this expansion of capacity and hours.”
Hours of operation are also ramping up, as testing will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both the Kroger Field and Eastern State Hospital locations. All testing at both locations is free and open to the public.
UK has partnered with Wild Health to operate both testing sites. Together, 40,500 nasal swab tests have been performed since Aug. 24.
