JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ky. — Following an executive order by Gov. Andy Beshear (D) that included restrictions to stop the spread of COVID-19 throughout Kentucky, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) announced today a suspension of all winter sports activities.
What You Need To Know
- JCPS temporarily suspends all winter sports activities
- NTI will continue for all schools until Jan. 4
- Football teams can still practice and participate in postseason play
The school district will also remain in Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) until at least Jan. 4.
“We will evaluate the data and confer with state health officials in mid-December to make future determinations,” the district said.
The big decision on sports comes shortly after the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) voted to delay the start of its winter sports. All JCPS winter sports practices are suspended until at least Dec. 14.
As for post-season football games? JCPS maintains that teams will still be allowed to practice and participate, based on KHSAA’s guidance.
“We must all do our part to protect those around us during this time. By working together we can reopen our schools sooner and resume the activities that we know have a positive impact on our students,” the district said.
