LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is keeping some fall and winter sports on hold for another week due to the county's rising COVID-19 numbers, according to an email from JCPS.

The announcement was sent to parents via email on Friday morning.
Winter sports teams are allowed to continue practicing in small groups, but the announcement said no "game-like simulations" can take place during those practices.
While no district football games are scheduled next week, JCPS will allow football teams to participate in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) state playoffs Nov. 19-21.
"If the KHSAA schedule remains in place, football teams can have full practice," the email said. "JCPS football teams will be allowed to participate. Those games are under the jurisdiction of KHSAA."
Jefferson County is currently in a "red zone" of COVID-19 transmission and positivity rates. According to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, that means there are at least 25 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in Jefferson County.
JCPS will conduct a review of the county's data on Thursday evening and make another determination about athletics next Friday morning.
"JCPS has an obligation to follow the guidance and direction from state leaders and health officials. It is our hope that we can resume full practices very soon," the email said.
