Gov. Andy Beshear announced 1,449 new cases Sunday, the highest number of new cases ever reported on a Sunday.
“Coronavirus is present in every corner of the commonwealth and it’s spreading at a truly alarming rate,” Beshear said. “This is not a drill; this is a health emergency that we all need to take seriously. Let’s come together as Team Kentucky to defeat this virus.”
Beshear urged community leaders, schools, businesses, and residents to follow the Red Zone Reduction Recommendations. Thursday's red zone counties are encouraged to follow the recommendations Monday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 22.
The governor also reported three new deaths Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths in Kentucky to 1,661. The positivity rate is at 8.88%.
Sunday's deaths include a 93-year-old woman from Fayette County and an 84-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man from Oldham County.
Currently, 1,383 Kentuckians are hospitalized, 330 are in the ICU, and 156 are on a ventilator, according to Beshear.
As of Sunday, the top counties with the most positive cases are Jefferson, Fayette, Warren, Kenton, and Boone.
“Kentucky’s state motto is ‘United We Stand, Divided We Fall.’ This motto has never been more applicable than now, as we fight the most deadly pandemic in over 100 years,” said Commissioner of the Department of Public Health Dr. Steven Stack. “Unless Kentuckians come together, we will continue on this dangerous trajectory with disastrous consequences.”
Information such as the number of recovered Kentuckians and the number tested will be reported Monday.
