What You Need To Know

  • KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer resigns from position effective Nov. 4

  • Unclear what prompted resignation, if it was requested by Gov. Andy Beshear

  • Resignation comes after report by Manual RedEye on old KSP training materials

Hall did not answer what prompted Brewer's resignation or if it was requested by Gov. Andy Beshear, who selected Lt. Col. Phillip Burnett to serve as acting commissioner.

Brewer is a 33-year veteran of KSP, previously serving as commissioner once before from December 2007 to February 2016.

The resignation comes less than a week after student journalists at duPont Manual High School released their report on old KSP training materials that quoted Adolf Hitler and urged cadets to be "ruthless killers."

Beshear weighed in after Manual RedEye released its report Friday. In a statement to Spectrum News 1, the governor said, "This is absolutely unacceptable. It is further unacceptable that I just learned about this through social media. We will collect all the facts and take immediate corrective action."

The governor also addressed the presentation during his daily briefing Monday and said it appeared the presentation was only given one time to one single class, but he said it was "absolutely and totally unacceptable."

"We are checking all training materials going back in time and looking at the present, and we are committed to making this right," said Beshear.

Hall said the cabinet is conducting an internal review of all training materials and will provide information as it becomes available.
