MADISON, Wisc. — The Louisville Cardinals and the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball teams will go head-to-head for the 22nd Annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The two teams will meet in Madison, Wisc. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, their first matchup since 1978 at the first game of the Louisville Holiday Classic.

Wisconsin, ranked 17th nationally in the final 2019-20 Associated Press poll, posted a 21-10 overall record and seized its 19th Big Ten championship in school history, and first since 2015. The Badgers are ranked seventh in the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook 2020-21 preseason ranking, winning their final eight games of the season.

Of Louisville's six previous challenge events since joining the ACC, Louisville has one four, like its 58-43 victory over No. 4 Michigan at the KFC Yum! Center last year. The Cardinals also prevailed against No. 14 Ohio State 64-55 during the 2015 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, lost to Michigan State 71-67 in 2015, triumphed over No. 15 Purdue 71-64 in 2016, failed against Purdue 66-57 in 2017, and won over No. 9 Michigan State 82-78 in overtime in 2018. 

42 years ago, when Louisville and Wisconsin last saw each other on the court, UofL won over the Badgers 70-53. Derek Smith led the Cardinals with 17 points off the bench in that game while Claude Gregory paced Wisconsin with 17 points and five steals.
