KENTUCKY — Early Friday, President Donald Trump announced that he and First Lady Melania Trump both tested positive for COVID-19. The president's announcement came just hours after the news that top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus.

Reactions and well wishes have poured in Friday, including messages from Kentucky lawmakers.

Gov. Andy Beshear (D)

Beshear wished the president and first lady a quick recovery, reminding, "This virus is real and can impact anyone." He urged people to wear masks, socially distance, and follow health guidelines.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R)

McConnell said he was happy to hear both the president and Melania were feeling well. In a second tweet, he said he spoke on the phone with the president.

"Just finished a great phone call with @POTUS. He's in good spirits and we talked business — especially how impressed Senators are with the qualifications of Judge Barrett. Full steam ahead with the fair, thorough, timely process that the nominee, the court, & the country deserve," he wrote.

Sen. Rand Paul (R)

"Get well soon and stay strong!" wrote Paul on Twitter.

Paul said he and his wife are keeping the president and his family in their prayers.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-District 4

Massie, who discovered he had COVID-19 following an antibody test, said he and his wife wish the president and Melania "a quick and full recovery." 

Rep. John Yarmuth, D-District 3

Yarmuth also wished the president and Melania a quick recovery.

"Can't have a more powerful example of how we are all at risk with this pandemic, particularly if you aren't honest about danger and don't take the necessary steps to protect yourself and your family," he wrote on Twitter.

Rep. Hal Rogers, R-District 5

Rogers said the president and first lady are in his thoughts and prayers. He wrote on Twitter that he hopes they recover quickly and "continue their critical work for the American people."

Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-District 2

Guthrie wrote on Twitter, "This news is a reminder that his virus can impact anyone," and said he's praying for the president and Melania.

Rep. Andy Barr, D-District 6

Barr said he will be praying for the health of the president, Melania, and all Americans fighting COVID-19.
