FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville and Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) in Danville are beginning their school years with at least six weeks of non-traditional instruction (NTI). Their school year will commence Aug. 24.

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) approved the plan KSB based on Jefferson County Health Department guidance, said KSB Principal Peggy Sinclair-Morris.
Sinclar-Morris said the full NTI plan will be released for all families and all instructional plans for children will be ready prior to the first day of classes.
KSB plans to resume in-person learning Oct. 5, but as that date nears, KDE officials will reevaluate the sitation alongside area health departments.
Depending on Boyle County Health Department guidance, KSD could resume in-person learning Oct. 12 after a one-week fall break.
“When we are permitted to return to campus, KSD will provide details in advance of our Healthy at School procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff when on campus,” KSD Principal Toyah Robey wrote in a letter to families. “It is critical that all comply with these guidelines to safeguard the health and welfare of everyone.”
