LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare’s Dr. Mona Lisa Tailor says wearing a face covering is still one of these best ways to reduce the spread of the coronavirus and debunks the myth asymptomatic people are incapable of spreading the illness.
“The virus with an asymptomatic person, it has more opportunity to find new hosts so that’s where this risk comes in. That’s why everyone needs to be wearing a mask because if you’re asymptomatic, you don’t know you have it,” Dr. Tailor said.
Dr. Tailor says if you’re out in the open, away from others, it’s safe not to wear a mask but whenever you get close to others, cover-up,” the doctor adds.
While wearing a mask may be inconvenient, Dr. Tailor reminds us people in the medical field wear them 12+ hours a day and the reason is to reduce the risk of passing an illness on to their patients.
“And I’ve seen what it’s caused. These fevers, the fatigue, the muscle aches, the burning, and discomfort in their lungs which is so uncomfortable. That’s probably one of the worst feelings I’ve heard from these patients is that ability to not breathe,” Dr. Tailor insists.
Dr. Tailor also reminds people to wear masks the proper way which includes covering the nose and mouth. As far gloves, Dr. Tailor says wearing them isn’t necessary when washing hands regularly and avoiding touching your eyes.
